Media Viability Manifesto

GFMD has been a member of the coalition of organisations that developed the manifesto and is well-placed to ensure that it is incorporated into the Toolkit.
‘State of Media Development’ - DW Akademie
The results from the DW Akademie survey, which is designed to measure the extent to which the OECD media assistance principles, will be published in the second quarter of 2025
Media Support Index
The MSI aims to be an annual, high-profile ranking of nation states according to their international support for media. It is being jointly developed by City, University of London, and the University of East Anglia. The index will recognise the degree that countries deliver on their commitments to support media internationally and provide a proven incentive for changing state behaviour.
The criteria for this index will (a) directly address various dimensions of media freedom, (b) be transparent and relatively easy to measure, using accessible sources of information, (c) be appropriate to all states, including those whose Foreign Ministries have relatively limited capacity and (d) be easily replicable each year.
The MSI is scheduled to be launched on 2 November 2025, the ‘International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists’.
