Planned meetings and activities for the GFMD International Media Policy and Advisory Centre (IMPACT) in 2021.
Donor-practitioner-academic learning meetings
GFMD IMPACT will organise up to four donor-practitioner-academic learning meetings in 2021 to facilitate regular communication, knowledge sharing and experience exchange between donors and practitioners.
In preparation for each meeting, the GFMD IMPACT team prepares a literature review analysing the most relevant research and other resources. These are shared with participants in advance of the meeting.
Case studies, selected by the GFMD IMPACT team, are presented by researchers, practitioners and donors.
The case study presentations are on the record.
A recording of each is posted on the GFMD youtube channel after each meeting.
Participants select which case study they would like to discuss in advance of the meeting. After the case studies are presented the meeting breaks out into these groups to discuss the issue in more detail.
When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed.
The breakout groups are also recorded but only for the purposes of record-keeping and to enable accurate reporting. The video or audio is never be shared or published.
After each meeting, the discussions are written up with the literature review to create a briefing on the topic.
GFMD organises policy and learning meetings for GFMD members (and invited guests from the donor, funder and academic communities) to analyse significant media development and journalism support issues and topics.
The topics for these meetings will be chosen based on feedback from GFMD's members. However, those participating in the GFMD IMPACT initiative will also be invited to attend on a case by case basis depending on the topic and their expertise.
